Divergent #3 Allegiant

Books, the all round perfect companion to humanity..... oh you'll know what i'm talking about in a few.... you'll know. Presenting Divergent #3 Allegiant by Veronica Roth.

Here is the summary of the book:

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

It began with a blast in 'Divergent', continued on in 'Insurgent' and manages to shake the foundations of our lives with 'Allegiant'. And I am fairly traumatized. So much so that i'm not able to clear my head to appreciate the books i'm reading now. Its not the book per say, in that context this actually is the perfect post-apocalyptic dystopia; its the traumatizing bittersweet ending that is the problem. Books are our very best of friends and books have the potential too of being the worst nightmare..... Allegiant tows the line somewhere in between.

Against my better judgement I actually knew what to expect when that moment came because a certain website called 'hypable' published a rather too spoilery review of the book..... but that definitely did not lessen the blow and by the end of it tears paved into rivers and my fragile heart was again in pieces..... figuratively of course.....

'Insurgent' showed us the truth of their city and the history of their factions. With the factionless in forced command, Tris, Tobias, Christina, Uriah, Cara and Tori decide to leave the city under the Allegiant initiative and find out the truth. What they find though is much more catastrophic than what they had in mind. The government put them in there to correct their own mistakes.

Think of it as an intensified Big Brother scenario. The government spying on the people, not interfering at most but taking some very drastic measures to serve their own cause. Correcting civilization by correcting their genes of certain undesirable traits like dishonesty, cowardice, low intelligence and to some extent the murderous intentions and violent tendencies. Traits while a part of a society are looked down upon, and people would gladly see such traits go......

But simply doing away with such things is just cop-out and barbaric. You take something that makes the person whole and leave them as such they change..... And i'm definitely certain you would not like people calling you genetically damaged..... because seriously no on can be perfect..... even the almighty is not depicted as such in the folks and the myths.

So things change drastically for Tris & Tobias. Leading to more fights, more mistakes, more altercations while they fight to hold tight to their feelings. All the Bureau wants is to keep the experiment alive by 'Resetting' everything..... resetting everything...... nobody should have that kind of power or even means to do it....... Thus Tris & Tobias find themselves again in the midst of another revolution..... this time between the GD and the GPs..... A race against time to save Chicago and bring this disaster to a stop...... and there goes Ms. Roth killing off the protagonist......

Yes there are sacrifices in a war. Yes not everyone gets their happy ending. But did she have to write such a subdued bitter-sweet ending..... Because she not only shatters our hearts but disrupts our happy place.... There is Tris who finds strength in truth, is ready to die to see Tobias and her loved ones happy and their is Tobias, who is suddenly in a vulnerable spot. Nobody likes to be called damaged as Tobias is no exception. It takes him sometimes to get over it but he does and I like him very much for that... but GOD THE LAST 40 PAGES..... even if I already knew what was going to happen, I still wasn't prepared for the effect it would have on me...... the full force with which it attacks us......

An author's mettle is proved by the plot they write but most of all is because of what their plot makes us feel...... I will definitely hope the directors change the ending for when the times comes for Allegiant to be made into a movie..... And whatever Roth comes up with next, i'll totally check it out.
