In The After #1 In The After

This year is again the year of some pretty amazing debuts but this year is also about dystopia and post-apocalyptic. And this is a fine specimen to the mix. Presenting In The After #1 In The After by Demitria Lunetta.

Here is the summary of the book:

They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you've ever seen.
And They won't stop chasing you...until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

2013 is definitely the year of debuts and Lunetta's In The After adds and impeccable title to the mix. Packing surprises and delivering them in a good way when we least expect it to. Based on the cover I actually thought this was an alien attack but the book keeps the suspicion and surprises undercover and keeps us readers interested.

Very well written and researched. Demitria Lunetta leaves no room for misses. From page one we are pulled into this post-apocalyptic setting. How Amy assess the situation around her and learns to adapt to her new surroundings. She knows to steer clear of the flesh eating aliens if she is to survive and devices her own methods for survival. She is tested again when after rescued and taken to New Hope, a safe zone created for the safety of the dwindling human kind.

The facility is in itself a creepy situation to be in. trying to forge order in the diminishing human population. There are rules for everything there, from the smallest and most meaningless to the life altering..... come on you can't even procreate with the person you desire, even that is lorded over by the directors (okay that is a spoilers don't read this guys*wink*). And Amy is pretty smart, she soon realizes something about the ongoings of New Hope that puts a wrench into things. A surprise we didn't expect at all and the sheer magnitude of it is enough to throw you off.

There is a sheer brilliance of unpredictability to the book. A welcome thought. We love unpredictable things.... adds more spin to the things . There is a certain pull to this book.... you get captivated and this lure of the unknown just pulls you along, when at the end you realize you are unsatisfied with it being a standalone  and want to read the progress of Amy's journey... Thank God that is not the case here..... Highly recommended, In The After is a testament of the creative prowess of authors highlighting just how far they have come with it.

"New and unpredictable..... Demitria Lunetta throws us a hair raising, edgy and horrifying tale designed to captivate you in its throws"
