Heirs of Chiror #1 The Queen's Choice

Presenting Heirs of Chiror #1 The Queen's Choice by Cayla Kluver.

Here is the summary of the book:

Magic was seeping out of me, black and agonizing. I could see it drifting away. The magic that would let me pass the Road to reach home again.

When sixteen-year-old Anya learns that her aunt, Queen of the Faerie Kingdom of Chrior, will soon die, her grief is equalled only by her despair for the future of the kingdom. Her young cousin, Illumina, is unfit to rule, and Anya is determined not to take up the queen's mantle herself.

Convinced that the only solution is to find Prince Zabriel, who long ago disappeared into the human realm of Warckum, and persuade him to take up his rightful crown, Anya journeys into the Warckum Territory to bring him home. But her journey is doomed to be more harrowing than she ever could have imagined.

With an insanely rich plot and a fantastically exquisite world building, Cayla Kluver presents her new series 'Heirs of Chiror' with the first book 'The Queen's Choice'. Mixing humans and the fae and creating a high fantasy like atmosphere... sadly it came under (almost) my DNF (did not finish) radar.... Reason? Despite the plot of such a nature... almost 70% of the book was dull. It was in the 30% towards the ending that it picked up quite the speed and kept me anchored.

Human and Fae in a high fantasy mix and world building is a hard task and at times very much dull. That was the case here, the story dragged for quite a while, only picking up speed as I explained towards the end. Which I hope won't be the case for the 2nd book because I loved Kluver's Legacy series and this series could be great if things are done correctly.

In a major sense this is actually a road story. Anya is the protagonist and The Queen's Choice speaks of her journey to the human territory in search of her wayward royal cousin, Zabriel. Due to circumstances the rule of accession fell on Anya. And she is not ready to be tied down yet as the Queen after her aunt. She is very independent, quite stubborn, very much of an airhead and very optimistic when it comes to her family, even if something else is going on the inside.

Without telling anybody she goes to the human territory to look for her cousin. And then tragedies seem to follow her wherever she went. Throughout all this she makes many new friends and also looses many. No place is safe and most of all the ones surrounding her are the most dangerous of them all.

Coupled with a vivid and rich plot, while The Queen's Choice may be very much dull, lays the groundwork for the coming books. So very much hoping the second book will pick up the pace because this one end at quite the cliffhanger.
