If Divergent was the base then Insurgent is the cream on top.....Presenting Divergent #2 Insurgent by Veronica Roth.
Here is the summary of the book:
One choice can transform you--or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love. Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable--and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so. "New York Times" bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second book of the dystopian "Divergent" series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.
A city divided factions. Dauntless, Abnegation, Candor, Amity, and Erudite...a city at its core. Insurgent begins just after Divergent ended (a word of advise read Divergent before reading this book). So Abnegation has fallen, Dauntless divided, Candor and Amity hang in the balance and Erudite, the mastermind behind this massacre, seeking control over the factions and those factionless demanding positions in society, and the government. Tris, Four, Caleb, Marcus and Peter make out safely from the Dauntless headquarters and go to the Amity.
Things are changing and the situation is very tense. New alliances are forged and old ones shattered. The society as we have seen it.....where only one quality is recognized has shattered and as more and more divergent come out.....the pillars on which this faction ruled Chicago is based upon is shocked to the ground.....and to top it all off even more shocking truths are revealed!!
In Divergent we got to know Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless. Insurgent introduces us to Amity, Candor and the factionless. Thus, creating a compelling change in the narrative as well as the direction the story is flowing in. There is an acute change in persona in this book......the situations are dire and certain decisions are made that make and break things. Insurgent also explains a lot about the divergent and their importance in society.
We get a further peak in Tris and Four relationship. Both are divergent. Both are Dauntless. There is a split personality in both. Tris is selfless, brave, loyal and reckless and there is a little Erudite quota in there too, which makes her sometimes go against what people tell her to do since her logic to do the right thing....very commendable. Four...oh one of the most intriguing YA hottie (there is a big list of them). The many layers of Four's persona are peeled off one by one revealing the complexity that is Four/Tobias. Protectiveness of Tris, his raw emotions and the intense love.....Roth definitely gave both Four and Tris enough fodder to make us readers swoon and sway in the intense chemistry between our favorite couple.
Got to commend Ms. Roth, she has given this book enough twist and turns and tensions enough to last us folks a life time. Going in the direction of an explosive conclusion.....THERE YOU GO.....SHE GOES AND ENDS IT IN A BLOODY CLIFFHANGER....I'm going crazy here and the last one comes out in fall 2013....How will I survive till then??
